Allassie was packing the last of the things she’d need: Her water purifier, her laser cutter, 2 Chord launchers with 100 m chords in each, a small cook kit, and a multitool. She set these all on her belt as she adjusted the black leather straps that went with her uniform. She had several messages beeping on her data pad that were telling her about all the last-minute delays. This was usual for her job.
She wasn’t completely into this new voyage her company had dragged her along with. They were a group of explorers and survivalists that often escorted rich clients to various wild planets for mostly their own pleasure. Most of the time she had to deal with snooty men and women who shuddered at getting the smallest speck of dirt onto their boots. Some of the others ended up having to hold her back at times from decking her clients.
This time was different, it was a group of scientists that were looking back into an old colony that had been abandoned for at least 50 years. It had been an old science outpost on a backwater planet that wasn’t inhabited by any of the civilized races that she knew of. They had not given them much information except for vague things to be prepared for. Still, it was a little more than what some of their other clients gave.
